Insemination can be done at home. You can buy a set at the pharmacy with which you can insert the seed within an hour. It must be stored at body temperature in that hour in between. But an insemination can also take place via the hospital.
The sperm bank.
A clinic or hospital with a sperm bank has already done the search for you. It is different for each clinic whether you can indicate ‘wishes’ in terms of appearance and character. For example, you may want the donor to look like you at the latest. A sperm donor may remain anonymous until the child is 16 years old. If you go for this choice, take into account a considerable waiting time.
Danish sperm bank is faster

In addition, you can select what your wishes are. Insemination can only be ordered in a hospital or clinic. You order a number of straws here, where the sperm is in. Insemination does not work. What options?
If insemination does not work, you can opt for IVF, ICSI or IUI. These treatments can only take place in a fertility clinic or hospital.
IUI
If no pregnancy has developed after 6 attempts, the doctor often recommends IUI. IUI only selects the best sperm cells, which are then inserted directly into your uterus.
IVF and ICSI
In IVF and ICSI, fertilization takes place in a laboratory. In this case, the fertilized egg is placed back into the uterus. In advance, you follow a treatment with hormone injections to ensure that the egg cell matures.

A fair question, because healthcare in the Netherlands is good but also expensive. If you want to become a Conscious Single Mother, something has changed in the financing since January 1, 2020. For example, there is a special subsidy scheme. The reimbursement no longer comes from basic insurance. You may perform a maximum of 12 inseminations with donor seed per pregnancy. These will be reimbursed including a fertility examination. You pay a one-off fee of € 192.50 yourself, so the clinic can ‘break open’ this subsidy.
Also good to know: a clinic or hospital uses ‘straws’. This is where the sperm is. Per set of straws this costs between € 150 and € 200. These straws are not reimbursed under the subsidy scheme.
Whatever choice you make, it’s personal
