Step 1
For the first part of the Mockingbird tutorial, we will draw a bird’s head and beak. For the top of the head, we will use a curved, almost completely horizontal line. It will attach to the beak, and the beak is quite thin and pointed. Next, add another curved line from the beak to the beginning of the neck. For the eye, draw a small circle, then draw an even smaller circle inside it. Then we will draw some corners around the eyes and you can create some texture by adding small lines near the shape. Once this is done, we will be able to move on to the second stage of the lesson.
Step 2 – Now pull the back and tail of the mockingbird.
You’ve completed the first part of your Mockingbird drawing, and now we can begin body drawing. When spread from the base of the neck, the back of the bird will be long and slightly curved. This tail will rotate again when it turns into a thin, pointed tail of a bird. Once the tail contour is ready, we will add some small curves inside it to add some detail to the winged structure. Then it’s time to move on to step 3 of the tutorial!
Step 3 – Drag the wings of the mockingbird.
Mockingbirds have tiny wings instead of adjusting their tiny bodies, and in this third step we will draw the first part of the wings on how to make a mocking bird tutorial. The front of the wing can be stretched with some curves, and for the back edge we will use small curves to make the arm look like a wing. We’ll also add details of some of the wings inside the wing, and then we’ll paint some more of it inside the wing. Then, in the fourth step of the tutorial, we can start making more parts of the bird’s body.
Step 4 – Next, pull the body and the rest of the wings.
The fourth part of your mockingbird drawing will help you to incorporate the body as well as complete the wings. For the back of the arm, you can draw some sharp curves to make it look like wings are coming out. As mentioned earlier, the wings have been shown solely to give a sense of proportion. You can then end this phase by pulling the bird’s body. You can use a light wavy line for the abdomen, then draw a sharp little shape for the upper part of the leg, where the leg will stick to the skin.
Step 5 – Include final details in your mockingbird drawing.
We can now complete the drawing to prepare you for the final stage of the Mockingbird tutorial. First, we will draw the bird’s legs. Like many small birds, mockingbirds have very slender tiny legs and you can pull them off the wings at the base of their body. Horizontal lines will then be drawn on the legs to give them the shape of a crow’s foot. Finally, use some simple, slightly curved lines for the branch on which the bird sits. Feel free to add any additional details once these aspects are ready! What wonderful background can you think of for this beautiful painting?
Step 6 – Complete a mockingbird drawing with color.
The final step in painting your mockingbird will help you complete some of the colors. In the wild, mockingbirds are not exactly known for their bright color schemes, so we kept things more realistic in our reference picture. That means we used light blue with deep areas and then some white for the bird’s belly. Even if you want to use real similar colors, you can add some variation in colors by coloring some background elements! You can also get different types of art tools and media used for coloring. We can’t wait to see how you complete this drawing! Your Mockingbird drawing is complete!
