Ways to Save Your Teacher Voice

For a teacher his or her voice is the most valuable asset on the basis of which the whole career of teaching depends. Teaching students 5-6 hours continuously in classes having a capacity of 30-60 students in each class can cause harm to the voice of a teacher. Seems a little weird but yes, it is true that often teachers face problems with their voice when they take excessive work from their voice and sometimes it is found that few teachers lose their voice too. Although the percentage of such teachers is very low, this situation is hazardous. Today students are learning online and getting their education mostly through online courses where they are assisted by school LMS and LMS portals. During online learning students are able to quench their thirst for education with proper help through school LMS and LMS portals. Students make noise in the class and sometimes they become so much mischievous that teacher has to shout loud in the class and when a class goes on outing outdoors then their teacher has to shout so much in order to control the kids that when they return from outing then he or she gets a sore throat due to which he or she is not able to speak properly till few days. So, tutors must take care of their teacher’s voice as much as they can. Let’s see how they can do this:

  • As a teacher one needs to keep himself/herself hydrated properly especially in summer seasons, this is very necessary for the throat and body too. Staying hydrated is very necessary for a teacher whose job is giving lectures mostly and for that teacher can sip-in water for every 10-15 minutes so that the throat should not get dry and muscles can get little rest there. This will keep the vocal cords healthy and toned and will keep the whole body hydrated also.
  • Speaking loudly can cause severe pain in the throat and can hurt vocal cords. So, as a tutor one should try to remain calm and polite in his or her lectures so that vocal cords can get a little rest. On the other hand, this balanced way of delivering the lectures makes the students like to attend the class of such a lecturer. Many times when one speaks loud and shouts then it chokes the throat while talking so it is suggested to tutors to not to shout and speak with a calm voice.
  • Breathe is an important part of our whole body’s productivity. Hence, it is suggested by learned people and professionals to take deep breath while lecturing in the class so that shortness of breath cannot reduce oxygen level in the body. Mostly tutors feel pain and tiredness in the throat during lectures and this happens due to shortness of breath. So , when we inhale & exhale ample amount of breath which provide ample amount of oxygen to lungs then muscles of throat don’t have to work harder and voice-tiredness doesn’t happen.
  • People and tutors sometimes don’t give much importance to what they eat and drink. People who are in voice business like singing, motivational speaking, dubbing artists and teachers or lecturers should not take junk foods and drinks which can harm the throat like excessive cold drinks usually cause harm to throat and cause pain in speaking. Therefore tutors should avoid such unhealthy and unhygienic food which can cause harm to the throat.
  • Tutors should try to speak slowly because the louder you speak the sooner you will feel exhausted and tired and the slower you speak the calmer you can feel yourself and can concentrate on delivering your lecture and solving queries of the children in the classroom. On the other hand, by speaking slower you make your points very clear to the teacher whereas by speaking fast you make students confused.
  • Tutor should never change his original natural pitch of voice, it doesn’t matter while talking or giving lectures. This reduces excess pressure on vocal cords and throat too. Sticking to your original and natural voice pitch makes students comfortable with you also otherwise students lose some words during your lecture when you change your pitch.
  • Tutors and motivational speakers have to talk too much with their listeners and students so whenever they get a chance, they should try to keep mum in order to provide ample rest to their vocal cords and throat as well as themselves. So that ample amount of rest can calm the muscles of the throat.
